Fester is a truly special old soul — sweet, gentle, affectionate and playful
Uncle FESTER is an 11-year-old Podenco, young at heart and full of love. He was rescued from a perrera and spent three months living in a home, where he had the chance to adjust to home life and live alongside other dogs. During this time, we learned that Fester can live happily with female dogs, as long as they respect his personal space, especially when he is sleeping or resting. However, he is not compatible with male dogs as housemates, and this is the reason he has now come to the shelter. Fester is a wonderful dog to walk with. He is easy on the lead and loves to trot along, sniff and explore. Like many Podencos, he has a hunting instinct and may react when he spots prey such as rabbits. But it is with people that Fester truly shines. He absolutely adores humans, loves cuddles and is incredibly kind, gentle and affectionate. He has also met older children and has been very sweet with them. Fester loves his balls and soft toys, and he has discovered how wonderful the comfort of a home can be. As a senior gentleman, he would be happy in either an apartment or a house with a smaller garden, as long as he gets his daily walks and plenty of love.
He can occasionally be startled by unexpected touch, especially when he doesn’t realise someone is about to touch him, and he may still feel unsure when having his harness put on. With patience and gentle handling, he is learning to trust these new experiences. Fester is a truly special old soul — sweet, gentle, affectionate and playful. He has so much love to give and deserves a peaceful home where he can enjoy his golden years surrounded by people who adore him.

Wire-haired Podenco – Bit timid at first, needs time & patience – Cat free home as she has been a hunting dog
CHISPA was surrendered by an elderly local hunter with 3 other Podencos (Anna, Shelley and Dabby) as he no longer could take of them. He was heartbroken to leave them with us but given his health he had no other option.
They were full of fleas and ticks but luckily they appear to be well fed.
Chispa, is a wire haired Podenco. She is a bit timid at first and needs some time and patience. She has always been with other dogs so to be adopted in a home with at least one other dog would be ideal

Sweet girl- Loves people & other dogs- Great family dog
Meet SAMMY! She was brought to us severely wounded – with two toes so badly injured they needed to be amputated.
She has been recovering in a lovely foster home (big thank you Run!) – but she is now looking for her forever home.
She is housetrained, loves people, good with other dogs. Great family dog.

WINSTON is a very social and affectionate dog.
He is a bit anxious at first but quickly warms to you when he understands that you want to cuddle him. He has likely had a tough life before he came to the shelter.

Gentle boy – Great family dog – Loves to walk and play
CHICO was surrendered to us. The reason for surrender is that the owner is not able to properly take care of him.
Chico is very good with other dogs, he has a very sweet nature and will make a great family dog.
He will need to be trained as any young dog requires and he loves to walk, so an outdoor family with a fenced garden where he can play would be ideal.

Very Friendly – Quite Some Energy – Escape Artist – Family Dog
BOOMER was found in the forest of Teulada.
He has shown to be a real escape artist, he knows how to climb the fence!
So for this very friendly family dog we will need to find a home with a walled garden, because otherwise he will know his way out!
Boomer likes his walk, he is easy on the lead.
He has quite some energy so a family who likes to hike or go for long walks would suit him very well!

Escape Artist- Lovely Character – Good with Dogs and People
KIWI has a great character. He is a beautiful podenco with his little beard!
He loves to play and shares an outside kennel with 2 other podenco´s.
This outside kennel has a roof…the first day he arrived in the shelter he managed to jump over a fenced kennel that did not have a roof! 10 minutes later he was happily shaking his tail at the frontdoor!
It is very important that the new owner has a good (high) fenced or walled garden! Kiwi also likes to go out on walks and likes to hunt

Loves People and Cuddles – Prefers to be Only Dog – Home with Older Children
Dimitrie and XUFA were found early morning at only 100 meters from the shelter. It was clear that they had been dumped there overnight. It was in the period that the temperature went up to 38 degrees.
It took a little while to gain their confidence but then they were happy to come with us to the shelter. They were both incredibly thirsty, poor dogs.
Xufa has a good character, she likes people very much and loves to be cuddled. With some dogs she is absolutely fine, with others less. So she would probably better go to a home where she will be the only dog.
We would also advise grown up children as she is quite strong.

Playful – Great Companion for Other Dogs – Loves Food
LAIKA is a very funny podenca. When she first arrived at the shelter she was a bit timid, but now that she knows everybody and knows the routine she has really come out of her shell.
We do think that she might be a bit timid again once she arrives in a new home, and we also believe that it would be better for her to go to a home where there are other dogs who can help her but also because she just loves to play!
She is good on the lead and follows her nose, she is a hunter but does not pull as some other Podenco’s do. And food is for her very important!
In the morning when taking her from the inside kennel towards the outside kennel she does not run like the other dogs do, she just walks next to you waiting for her well deserved piece of sausage once she arrives in the outside kennel! She has a great and funny character!

Loves Long Walks – Very Good with People – Prefers to be Only Dog
LUNA came to us because her owner unfortunately died. She was in foster care for a while with a friend of the owner but as that person had other dogs and Luna would not always get along with them she had to leave.
Luna is very attached to people and loves to be cuddled. She has a good character and is house trained.
A couple of our volunteers take her on long walks, because even if she is 8 years old she still has quite some energy.
We are looking for a new home for Luna where she will be the only dog.
